ONE ROOM CHALLENGE: WEEK 1

I'm so excited, and slightly terrified to be a guest participant in the Fall 2017 One Room Challenge! For those of you who don't know me, I'm Natasha Habermann. I'm an interior designer and creative, and I just moved from NYC to the country with my husband and two cats.

The room I've decided to tackle is our "library." I surmise this room was intended to be the dining room, but when we renovated the kitchen, we closed up the doorway from the dining room to the kitchen. Our kitchen has a large dining area, so having another dining space did not make sense, nor was it the best use of our 1,700 sq/ft home.

BEFORE PHOTOS:

As aforementioned, the first change was closing up the doorway from kitchen to "dining room." We then added a door which leads out to the fenced in courtyard. Before, you could only access the courtyard by going around the house. Now, it's an extension of this room.

THE PLAN:

The plan is to add a wall of built-in bookcases, a pull-out sofa, a small desk, and a comfy chair. We'll be using this room as a casual office and a guest room. I say "casual office" as we already have a proper workspace in our studio.

THE DESIGN:

As for the design of the room, the goal is a fun but classic, cozy library. The bookcases will be painted Hague Blue.

I'll wallpaper the other walls with a complimentary wallpaper. The wallpaper is giving me the most anxiety. Some wallpapers take up to six weeks to arrive, so I'm praying I'll be able to complete this challenge on time! Here are a few wallpapers I'm considering.

The pull-out sofa I ordered is a green leather chesterfield from Roger and Chris.

As for the lounge chair and desk, I'm hoping to find those on Craiglist. I've purchased a pair of antique sconces from eBay but I'll need a lot more lighting. Other items on my list are a rug, window treatments, a coffee table, and art to make this room come together.

I hope that you'll continue to follow this journey! Please make sure to check out all of the official participants as well as the guest participants of the One Room Challenge!

Wish me luck!
