HOW TO STYLE AN UGLY COUCH

For the Beach Bungalow project, I am faced with the challenge of disguising an ugly couch. Replacing the couch isn’t a priority, so styling it to fit in with the new décor will be the plan of attack!

If you’re faced with the same issue, here are a few simple tips to update an eyesore!

STEP 1: Cover the base cushions with an interesting blanket. The blanket I used is actually a Turkish towel that I found at TJ Maxx.

STEP 2: Cover the back cushions with a white sheet.

STEP 3: Add a rug. The rug pictured is actually two small rugs placed together. I found them at TJ Maxx. Ideally your rug should extend 8" beyond each edge of the couch.

STEP 4: Add throw pillows. The square pillows are from Anthropologie and the lumbar pillow is from TJ Maxx.

STEP 5: Add an interesting coffee table (preferably vintage) and a fur throw. I’ve also added a basket with a haphazardly thrown blanket and a guitar for effect!

STEP 6: Add art above the couch (ideally two-thirds the couch’s width) and a plant. I haven’t hung the art in this picture because we’re still undecided on what's going above the couch! If you are hanging art above your couch it should hang approximately 8” above its top edge.

I hope these tips have been helpful! Happy Saturday everyone!

Are you looking to redo your space? If so, I'd love to work with you!
